“You know at the end when they give him the Roc-A-Fella chain and stuff, it’s like you wanna root for that type of person. “I was like, ‘Wow, this guy really struggled to get to this point,'” AD reveals. “I used to really draw and stuff like that, so when I seen the artwork, too for it as well, it just like blew my mind.”ĪD’s fandom for West began when he saw the video for “Through the Wire.” He was drawn in by Ye’s vulnerability. Recording sessions took place during 2005 to 2007 at Chung King Studios, Sony Music Studios, Chalice Recording Studios, and the Record Plant. (I was in the seventh grade when this was released.) I feel like people hate on 2000s music for being overproduced and Autotuned and generally too slick, but there really is something special about it. Graduation is the third studio album by American rapper Kanye West, released on September 11, 2007, through Def Jam Recordings and Roc-A-Fella Records. “I was really big into art, too,” AD explains. Every time I listen to this one, I feel like I’m on a school bus. He has a tattoo on his left arm of Dropout Bear. I don’t know if artists ever try to make beats and stuff like that, that’s no easy thing.”Įven the iconic cover art for Graduation stood out to AD, whose By the Way mixtape was released in June. Most artists would kill to have an album as good as Graduation, but as I said, I hold Kanye to a higher. As far as artists, I don’t make no damn beats. Now, Graduation is by no means a bad album, quite the opposite. Just as putting everything together and I know as far as him being a producer, too, producing mostly all your music, rapping, you’re creating every single thing. “Lyrically, he’s always going to hold his own and stuff like that. “To me, Kanye is a genius, period,” AD says. I do want to try to make a version of the album that has all the songs on it, and see if it can be improved purely by better song arrangements. Keep My Spirit Alive (thinking about replacing this with Jonah.)ĭonda Disc 2 (like In Rainbows Disc 2, y'know?) There's other songs there I guess I can be picky about, but I'll just post the tracklist I've been listening to at work today, with some recent edits following this post and think it works for the most part.Ģ4 (Might axe it for Jonah, the singing is slightly grating.) There are several tracks I'd put on the album before these. It was a great intro song during the listening parties, but in it's finished state It's a bridge to nowhere. And, as much as it hurts to say, "Donda" should be cut. Yeezus-y) Kanye's weird voice he does in the beginning of Praise God and Baby Keem's feature drags that song down. ^_^ God Breathed's outro is too long (and it all around feels a little too. The album version of "Donda" felt like a buildup that went no where, so putting it a nice intense sort of song into it works well, and I think the gothic chanting passage of "God Breathed" flows in somewhat nicely into the Donda sermon of "Praise God." It gives a bigger sense of purpose to those Donda portions again and gives her a better presence on the album. Click to shrink. This is a pretty good list! And I conceptually I like what you did with Donda -> God Breathed -> Praise God.
